Alanna Kennedy Career

In 2010, Alanna Kennedy started playing soccer. Prior to going to Newcastle Jets at the start of the 2011–12 season, she played for Sydney FC in the W-League during the 2010–11 season, appearing in just 3 games. She rejoined Sydney FC for the 2012–13 season.

She made the decision to transfer to city rivals Western Sydney Wanderers for a full season the following year. In the 2014–15 campaign, she joined Perth Glory. She then signed a contract with NWSL team Western New York Flash in 2016, played in 17 games for the team, and helped the team win the 2016 NWSL championship in 2015. In 2015, she returned to her former club Sydney FC, where she lasted for two seasons.

Alanna Kennedy played in every match for the Orlando Pride in 2017 and scored the lone winning goal in the team’s final match of the season after being traded for midfielder Sam Witteman in January of that year.

For the 2017–18 W-League season, the club leased Kennedy to Melbourne City, where she earned a spot on the Westfield W-League’s Team of the Decade, which was comprised of the league’s top 11 players ever.

She played in 20 games for Orlando Pride in the 2018 NWSL, scoring twice, although the team was unable to repeat its success from the previous year, finishing the campaign in a disappointing seventh place.

For the 2018–19 W-league season, Kenney was loaned to Sydney FC, returning to the team where she originally played club football. She won the 2019 W-League championship in February after defeating Perth Glory 4-2 in the final.

Kennedy was not left behind on the international stage; rather, her composure, talent, and skill both on and off the field provided her an edge over her peers. She has had the honor of playing for her nation’s under-17, under-20, and senior women’s national teams. She played against New Zealand in her debut match in national attire in 2012. She was invited to join the team for the 2014 AFC Women’s Asian Cup when she was 19 years old, and she played in three games as Australia finished as runners-up to Japan.

Kennedy broke the record for being the second-youngest player on the country’s 23-player list for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World as a result of her commitment to her national team, which earned her another summons to serve on the international stage in 2015. Although the team finished second in their group and advanced to the knockout stage, they were eliminated from the competition by Japan in the quarterfinals after defeating Brazil in the round of 16. She participated in all five games.

She was also a member of the Australian Olympic team that fell to Brazil in the quarterfinals at the 2016 Rio Olympics after she missed the final penalty.

She was also a member of the 2017 Tournament of Nations winning team, which defeated the US for the first time. And in the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup semifinal match against Thailand, which they ultimately won on penalties, she scored twice to equalize the score. They did, however, lose to Japan in the 1–0 final.
